Semester In Orvieto, Italy

Through the semester abroad program on our (other) Hilltop in Orvieto, Italy,  you can live, learn, and travel with fellow students and Saint Anselm faculty while earning Saint Anselm College credit and fulfilling core learning requirements. The Orvieto program is offered every Spring Semester and is open to sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Applications are due by October 1st each year.

While studying in Orvieto you will continue to take four courses as you do in New Hampshire but the curriculum will integrate local culture, art, architecture and history through weekly academic excursions and workshops. You can expect guided tours of Rome, Florence, Montecassino, Assisi, Siena, Pompeii and other heritage sites as well as wine tasting and food workshops, where you'll experience the cultural energy and history of Italy.

Orvieto is conveniently located in Italy's Umbria region, as it is one hour from Rome and one and a half hours from Florence by train.  Orvieto itself is an amazingly charming city, full of history, archaeology, art, and culture.  It was the center of the mysterious Etruscan civilization from 800 BC to the Roman conquest in 264 BC. During the middle ages it was the seat of the papacy for almost two centuries, a starting point for crusaders and a seat of the Knights Templar. It boasts a Cathedral that is an architectural marvel whose chapels house some of the finest art that central Italy has to offer. In addition Orvieto is a safe and friendly city with a lively and interesting cafe and food scene.

The Semester in Orvieto program offers you the chance to leisurely experience Italy as a 'resident' of an Umbrian hill town, to explore cultural highpoints of Italy through the included weekly academic excursions,  and to travel and explore further afield during scheduled long weekends and a 10 day spring break. The advantage of the Orvieto program, is that it is a Saint Anselm program- just on another campus: most financial aid follows, the courses are Saint Anselm courses taught by Saint Anselm faculty and factor into your GPA.  The Orvieto program offers you the opportunity to open yourself to experience another culture while providing the support of still being part of the Saint Anselm community.
