As You Like It by William Shakespeare

Heralded as one of Shakespeare's most enduringly popular comedies, As You Like It begins, however, in conflict. Banished to the Forest of Arden by the evil Duke, Rosalind decides to disguise herself to seek out her usurped father. Here she reconnects with her beloved Orlando and, under the guise of a young man, counsels him in the art of love and wooing. While in the woods Rosalind discovers displaced courtiers, lovesick shepherds, and warring brothers who all become entangled in comic complications of love and mistaken identity. As You Like It runs the glorious gamut of pastoral romance: cross-dressing and love-notes; poetry and brilliant conversation; gentle satire, slapstick and passion. The Abbey Players have set their production in the 1960s where old ideologies will be challenged by flower children in the forest. Peace wins out, however, and all is made well with a groovy wedding finale. Join the Players as they again proudly present one of the Bard's classic comedies.
