Matt Shaw

Class of 2011. Major - Criminal Justice
A Student Leader With Conviction
For Matt Shaw, it all began with Criminal Justice course, Theories and Practice of Punishment. After four years of criminal justice courses, it is still his favorite because of its focus on the philosophical and theoretical approaches to punishment. Now a senior, Shaw relies on what he learned there as he looks to the future. This spring, he will intern in the investigative unit of the U.S. Probation Office in Concord, N.H. There he will attend court hearings, write reports, and conduct interviews. After graduation, he wants to work at a federal law enforcement agency such as the Immigration Customs Enforcement. Shaw believes that college is what you make of it, and he lives this conviction daily as vice president of the Student Government Association, a Spring Break Alternative leader, chair of freshman orientation, and a regular on intramural teams.
