Working With Photographs/Images
All photographs and images should be added to the Web in .JPG or .GIF format at a resolution of 72 dpi. Color photographs are usually saved as .JPG files, while the .GIF format is used for posting line art or images with a few colors (e.g., logos). All photographs and images should be sized and optimized for viewing on the Web.
Photoshop Elements 3.0
If you will be adding photographs to your Web site on an ongoing basis, we recommend that you purchase Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0, which is available from Information Technology for $29. Contact Carol Richards in IT for order information.
The Web publishing staff is also available to optimize photographs for you. We have included below some tutorials on how to use Photoshop (the full program) and Photoshop Elements' "Save for Web" feature if you already own one of these software packages.
