Using the Advisor Handbook

This handbook is a reference source for faculty advisors. Please read it carefully so that you are familiar with the academic requirements, regulations, and resources of Saint Anselm College. Serious problems can result from errors made by those who advise students.

The keys to using the handbook are the major headings with related topics listed under each heading. The handbook was organized to give information on a variety of advisor functions, responsibilities, as well as areas of necessary information.

Additional resources for advisors include the Saint Anselm College Catalog, Faculty Handbook, Student Handbook, and the class schedule, available from the Office of Admission, the Office of the Dean of the College, the Dean of Students Office, and the Office of the Registrar, respectively. These documents, as well as faculty advising manuals from other institutions, the NACADA Web site, the ACT Publication, Advising Skills, Techniques and Resources, by David Crockett, the CAS Academic Advising Standards and Guidelines, and Academic Advising: A Comprehensive Handbook, a NACADA Publication were used as resources for this handbook. Lastly, the Office of Academic Advisement houses an extensive library of books and journals available for faculty use.

Questions regarding information in this handbook should be referred to academic advisement, located on the top floor of Cushing Center. The office can also be reached at (603) 641-7465 or academicadvisement@anselm.edu.
