Summer Faculty Institute '15

Join us at a very exciting SFI '15!

This year's SFI will feature world renowned keynote speaker, Dr. Curt Bonk, author of The World is Open, The Blended Learning Handbook, Empowering Online Learning and Adding Some TEC-VARIETY.  Dr Bonk will be joining us from Indiana University - Bloomington, where he will present Learning is Changing: E-Learning, The Open World and Beyond especially for Saint Anselm College faculty. He will take your questions and engage in targeted discussions about leveraging technology to foster student engagement. (Curt Bonk, Ph.D. Biography)

Faculty can take part either in a General Track with sessions that are open to all or the Cohort Track, by application, which includes the General Track plus extra sessions on building micro-lectures

12:00 - 1:30 Lunch: 2015 Instructional Technology and Design Update
Enjoy lunch as Dr. Kim Round discusses the present state of Instructional Technology and Design at Saint Anselm College and what the future will hold.

1:30 - 2:15 Using Voice Threads in Sakai
Coming this fall, Voice Threads is a powerful tool, bringing video, audio and multimedia collaborative capabilities to Sakai. Get a sneak peek as Cindy DiMascio, Instructional Technology Specialist, demonstrates how Voice Threads can strengthen learner engagement in your courses.

2:30 - 3:15 IT&D Studio Tour
IT&D is building a new studio on the ground floor of Poisson Hall. This fall, the studio will be available to faculty for recording multimedia (video and audio) with professional assistance. Join David Hjelm, Instructional Media Supervisor, as he exhibits the resources in this new space!

Enjoy lunch as our pilot online faculty discuss the process of adapting their on-ground summer courses to fully online courses. Their journey was a remarkable one as they worked with IT&D to redesign their courses and leverage best practices in online teaching.

1:30 - 2:15 Open Educational Resources
Looking for e-content without all of the copyright worries? The library will present strategies to identify Open Educational Resources (OER). An "open" movement is resulting in robust repositories of information, which are free to leverage in your courses.

2:30 - 3:15 Emergent Black Swans in Instructional Technologies
The black swan theory or theory of black swan events is a metaphor that describes an event that comes as a surprise, has a major effect, and is often inappropriately rationalized after the fact with the benefit of hindsight. Have you wondered what impact the emerging technologies of today might have on teaching and learning of tomorrow? Join Dr. Kim Round, Director of Instructional Technology and Saint Anselm's CIO, Adam Albina, as they debate the possible pros and cons of emergent instructional technology black swans.
