As Assistant Director of Career Services, I enjoy helping students with their career and professional development. Students can take the Focus2 online, a planning tool that assesses career -relevant personal qualities, offering major and career possibilities based on the results. I also administer and interpret the MBTI, a widely used instrument that reports one of sixteen personality types that best describes the student. The results of these assessments, in combination with our discussions concerning their interests, skills, values and experiences, leads to potential majors and careers to further explore. In terms of professional development, I also assist students with cover letter and resume writing, interviewing, and job searching, ultimately preparing them for the world of work when they graduate.
I have always enjoyed working with students and spent many years as a middle school substitute teacher when my children were in school.
I have two children, a daughter who lives in Boston and a son who lives in NYC. I love seeing them both as often as I can and especially enjoy family get-togethers involving great food and conversation. I also live with three Mini Dachshunds, Sophie, Rocco and Frankie, who sometimes behave badly but most times are funny, smart and lovable. When you visit my office on the top floor of Cushing, you will see pictures of Dachshunds on every wall.
Our motto in the CEL is Experience Matters, and my role in the center is to reach out to students through classroom presentations, workshops and career programs to encourage them to be engaged, whether it is through service learning, volunteering through the Meelia Center, studying abroad, and/or participating in campus clubs, athletics, and internships. Not only will students develop professionally through these experiences, they will gain the skills that employers strongly value in new graduates.
