Molly O'Neill

Why did you decide to do an internship?

I major in general business so I thought that participating in an internship would help me to determine more specifically what I wanted to do within the discipline.  I knew that I wanted to work in some kind of nonprofit organization so I chose to participate in a development internship with the Alzheimer's Association

If you could tell someone one reason why they should partake in an internship, what would you say?

Participating in an internship gives you the chance to not only gain experience, but it also allows you to figure out whether or not you would be happy pursuing a career in that particular field.

What was the most memorable experience you had while interning?

The most memorable experience for me during my internship would be working at a conference for caregivers of people living with Alzheimer's disease.  At that conference I was able to see more clearly the mission of the organization and the impact that all of the "behind-the-scenes" work has.

What was the biggest obstacle you had to face during your internship?

At the beginning of my internship the biggest obstacle was finding my role within the office and the organization.  Shortly into my internship, they began giving me more responsibilities and now I am able to perform a variety of tasks for the Association without doubting myself.

What advice would you give to students who are interested in doing an internship but haven't applied yet?

I would tell students who are interested in doing an internship to definitely go ahead to apply to organizations that match their possible career interests.  Interning is an extremely valuable experience that all students should try!
