Levesque Visits Iowa

November 19, 2010

Story by Carolyn Hammer

Neil Levesque, executive director of the New Hampshire Institute of Politics (NHIOP) at Saint Anselm College was recently a guest speaker at the announcement of the opening of the John C. Culver Public Policy Center at Simpson College in Iowa. The college asked Levesque and Cathy McLaughlin, executive director of the Institute of Politics at Harvard University, to discuss the programs and initiatives at their respective institutes.

The Culver Public Policy Center is being established to honor the service of John C. Culver and continue his legacy of service to the people of Iowa for 16 years in the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate. In addition the center will continue Culver's work in civic education and engagement.

"An educated and engaged citizenry is vital for a healthy democracy and I am very pleased to share the work of the NHIOP with this new and developing center," said Levesque. "Ten years ago, the NHIOP filled a great need in our state, and I am confident that the Culver Center will do the same for Iowa."

Like Saint Anselm College, Simpson College was selected as the venue for the Culver Center because of its commitment to civic engagement and its location in Iowa, a state that cherishes its first-in-the-nation caucuses as much as New Hampshire values its first-in-the-nation primary status.
