Examples of keyword searches to search in the catalog:

Search by keyword if you are unsure of the title or the 'official' subject heading, or if you are just beginning your research. Here are a few examples that would produce results for Bible research (note: use an asterisk * to locate plural and singular forms of your keywords):

  • anchor bible and isaiah
  • bible and concordance*
  • bible and literature
  • bible and commentar*
  • bible and commentar* and exodus

Examples of subject headings to search in the catalog:

To search by subject, you must use a Library of Congress Subject Heading (LCSH). The library assigns subject headings to all items listed in the catalog. This makes it easy to find books on the same or similar topics. Please see a reference librarian for help in finding additional subject headings.

  • Bible Concordances
  • Bible N.T. Criticism
  • Bible N.T. John Commentaries
  • Bible O.T. Genesis (or other Old Testament book)
  • Theology Dictionaries

When you find a book of interest in the catalog, the call number will direct you to its place on the library shelves.

If you have searched the Geisel Library Catalog but could not locate a book on your topic try searching WorldCat, a database that allows you to search the collections of libraries throughout the United States. When you locate a title of interest, click on the ILL icon in the book's catalog record to request the item through interlibrary loan. Your book(s) will be available for pickup in the library within 7–14 days. For assistance in using this database please Ask a Librarian.

This library of thousands of e-books spans across all scholarly disciplines. Books can either be opened in QuickView for instant viewing or in the ebrary Reader (a downloadable plug-in), which provides enhanced functionality such as the ability to copy/paste, highlight, or take notes in a particular book.
