Collection development is the process of selecting appropriate materials to support the curriculum and research needs of our students and faculty. Resources that are selected include:
- monographs
- periodicals
- electronic resources
- videos, DVD's and CD's

Anselm Collection
The Anselm Collection is made up of primary and secondary materials documenting the life and works of Saint Anselm, Abbot of Bec and Archbishop of Canterbury.
Curriculum Library
The curriculum library is designed to support the college's teacher training curriculum. The collection's first priority is meeting the information needs of active student teachers. It contains print and non-print materials used for preparation of lessons in secondary school classes in the areas of English, social studies, foreign language, mathematics, chemistry, and biology.
DVD/Video Collection
Our large DVD/video collection includes feature films, e.g., Academy Award winners, as well as documentaries and foreign films.
General Collection
Materials in the General Collection are shelved according to the Library of Congress call numbers. These materials are available to be checked out and are located on all three levels of the library. Refer to the floor plans for details on call number locations.
Government Documents
Many government publications are shelved in the government documents area on the Lower Level, while others are with the Reference or General Collections and some are online. For more information, see Government Publications in the Library.
Krantz Music Collection
Named in memory of Professor Stephen Krantz, this collection of CDs supports the college's music curriculum and includes classical, rock, and rap artists. The collection is housed on the Lower Level of the library.
Maps
Geisel Library's map collection includes CIA country maps and USGS topographic maps for NH, and is housed on the Lower Level of the library.
Microforms
The library has a large collection of materials on microfilm and microfiche, including past issues of newspapers and journals, U.S. Congressional Hearings, books, and primary source collections. These materials are kept on the Lower Level of the library. Reader/printers are available for these resources.
Newspapers
The library keeps back issues of newspapers on the Lower Level of the library. Check the catalog record for retention periods. Additional newspaper titles are available online. Refer to the guide on How to Find Newspapers for more details.
Oversize Books
Books which are too large for standard shelving are located on the Lower Level of the library.
Periodicals
Geisel Library's periodicals are shelved alphabetically and located on the Lower Level; sosme issues are available in microform. The most current issue of selected titles are in the Reading Room, on the west end of the Main Level. Additionally, numerous periodical titles are available online in full text. Consult the library catalog,
the Journal Finder, or a reference librarian for further information and assistance.
Reference/Ready Reference Collection
Located on the Main Level near the Reference Desk, these non-circulating materials are a great starting point for research.
Rare Book and New England Collections
These special collections are in the Creaghe and Poisson Rooms, Upper Level of the Library. Please see the Circulation staff for details.
Abbey Library
Items in the Abbey Library may be available for in-library use upon request. Please see the Circulation staff for details.
New Hampshire Institute of Politics
Items in the New Hampshire Institute of Politics (NHIOP) Research Center are cataloged in Geisel Library's online catalog; these materials are non-circulating.
