Search the following databases to locate citations and/or full text of journal articles. In some cases, the database will provide links to the full text of articles. If you see a  button next to an article of interest, click it to determine whether the journal is available in the Geisel Library or in full text via another electronic database. WebBridge will also help you request articles through Interlibrary Loan if they aren't available through our library. If there is no WebBridge button, search for the journal's availability using the Journal Finder. Journals listed as being in "Geisel Library Paper Holdings" are shelved alphabetically by journal title on the Lower Level of the library.

ACS Publications (American Chemical Society)
Search here for full-text articles from 25 peer-reviewed American Chemical Society publications and citations from more than 30 journals. The ACS is one of the world's largest scientific societies and its publication, the Journal of the American Chemical Society, is one of the most cited journals in chemistry research. (1996–current; see the Legacy Archives for citations covering 1879–1995.)

SciFinder Scholar provides access to Chemical Abstracts from 1907 to the present. Visit the library's SciFinder Scholar page for more information on this database.

Biological Sciences (CSA)
Contains abstracts from over 6,000 science journals, some conference proceedings, technical reports and books from 1982 to the present. A wide variety of biological subjects are covered, including biochemistry and toxicology.
BioOne
This website houses the full-text of over 100 research journals in and some cover biochemical topics.
TOXLINE
This database from the National Library of Medicine is an "extensive collection of online bibliographic information covering the biochemical, pharmacological, physiological, and toxicological effects of drugs and other chemicals." Coverage is five years ago to the present.

A broad index providing abstracts and some full-text for a range of academic areas, including chemistry. A number of ACS journals are indexed, and links to full-text are provided where available.
CQ Researcher
Explores a single "hot" issue in the news in depth each week. Some of these issues pertain to the field of chemistry. Coverage is from 1991 to the present.

Search the library catalog to locate books in Geisel Library. Search by keyword if you are
unsure of the title you are looking for. Chemistry related books are located on the Upper Level of the library in the QD (Chemistry)
and GE (Environmental Science) areas.
Search WorldCat to search the collections of libraries worldwide. Find a book in this database, and, if not owned by SAC, you can request it from Interlibrary Loan with one click. Your book(s) will be available for pickup in the library within 7–14 days. Ask for help in using this database at the reference desk, in person, or online at Ask a Librarian.
Ebrary is an online library containing thousands of e-books spanning across all scholarly disciplines. Books can either be opened in QuickView for instant viewing or in the ebrary Reader (a downloadable plug-in), which provides enhanced functionality such as the ability to copy/paste, highlight, or take notes in a particular book.

Searching the World Wide Web can yield a vast amount of information, but in terms of quality and reliability, your results may be uneven at best. The ease and speed with which individuals can publish information on the web, regardless of accuracy or quality, makes it imperative that when doing research on the web you know how to evaluate the information you find. American Elements (Periodic Table)
The periodic table from American Elements provides basic technical data, safety data, properties, research, applications, and other useful facts about the elements. American Elements is a commercial enterprise but the scientific information is unbiased and solely intended to be useful.
ChemCenter: American Chemical Society
Although primarily for chemical professionals in industry, academe, and government worldwide, ChemCenter also provides resources for educators, students and individuals seeking information about the chemistry-related sciences and the American Chemical Society (ACS). Google Scholar
In November 2004 Google introduced Google Scholar, a search engine to locate scholarly literature. Materials found in Google Scholar include "peer-reviewed papers, theses, books, abstracts and articles from academic publishers, professional societies, preprint repositories, universities and other scholarly organizations" (About Google Scholar, 2006). Some, but not all, of the content in Google Scholar is available in full text. Google Scholar is a good starting point for research, but it is not considered comprehensive for scholarly content. For the most thorough search of a topic, consult subject-specific indexes (CJ Abstracts, PsycINFO, SocINDEX, etc.).
