The Anselmian Abbey Players are pleased to announce our spring musical, Into the Woods.
An ambivalent Cinderella? Little Red Riding Hood in a wolf-skin cloak? A Prince Charming with a roving eye? A Witch...who raps? They're all among the cock-eyed characters in the charming fractured fairy tale of Into the Woods.
When a Baker and his Wife learn they've been cursed with childlessness by the Witch next door, they embark on a quest for the special objects required to break the spell: a white cow, a red cape, a golden slipper, and hair as yellow as corn.
Jack (of beanstalk fame), Rapunzel, and other Brothers Grimm favorites pursue their individual wishes as their stories become entangled in unexpected ways--revealing what happens after "happily ever after." The wickedly witty score of Into the Woods weaves a magical spell with such bewitching gems as "Children Will Listen," "Giants In The Sky," and "No One Is Alone."
Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine have woven together these treasured tales in a way that appeals to children of all ages--witty enough to make old stories fresh for adults, lovely enough to enchant youngsters.
The cast of Into the Woods features 19 talented students of Saint Anselm College with a crew of 20-plus students. An orchestra of professional and student musicians completes the ensemble. Professionally directed and choreographed, this production of Into the Woods promises to be a most rewarding live theatre experience.
Tickets can be ordered through the Dana Center box office.
