After serving 11 years in the position, Fr. Augustine Kelly, O.S.B, has decided to step down as vice president for academic affairs and dean of the college.
Dr. Steven R. DiSalvo, president of the college, announced Fr. Augustine's decision today.
"Fr. Augustine's accomplishments are too numerous to list," Dr. DiSalvo said. Among the most notable are the establishment of an RN to BSN program and several new majors including those in education and communication. He introduced minors in the curriculum, and provided oversight and guidance of the college's new core curriculum effort.
"In addition, Fr. Augustine oversaw the renovation of Joseph Hall as an academic center now housing faculty offices and seminar classrooms," Dr. DiSalvo said.
Fr. Augustine wrote the Saint Anselm College Anthem, which was composed by Fr. Bede Camera, O.S.B.
Fr. Augustine entered Saint Anselm Abbey in 1981 and graduated from the college with a degree in psychology in 1984. He earned a master's degree in theology from St. John's Seminary in 1988 and was ordained a priest the same year. He taught in the college's humanities program and served as assistant registrar and registrar before pursuing further graduate work in Scotland. At the University of St Andrews, he earned a M.Litt. and Ph.D. in reformation history.
In 2001, Fr. Augustine joined the history department of Saint Anselm College, and he was appointed Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean in 2002. He will resume work in other areas of the college and Abbey.
