With his wife Mary, and children Kathleen, Jamie, and Fiona at his side, James McGhee, professor emeritus of theology, at Saint Anselm College, died peacefully on Saturday, August 26, 2017.
Born in Clydebank, Scotland, July 29, 1937, Jim was educated at the Royal Scots College in Rome, and received his doctorate in theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome. He taught at Saint Vincent's College, Langbank, Scotland, for 10 years, prior to his tenure at Saint Anselm College.
Jim served as chair of the Theology Department for many of his 32 years at the college. For decades, he was a beloved professor and mentor to students in his medical ethics and Christian marriage courses. Jim was a valued mentor and colleague to numerous faculty and staff throughout his tenure at Saint Anselm. Furthermore, Jim had an immense impact on the broader community, bringing his expertise to ethics committees at Catholic Medical Center and Elliot Hospital, and serving many humanitarian organizations, including hospice programs. He was recognized with the American Association of University Professors Award for Faculty Excellence, and the Greater Manchester Good Samaritan Award. He was known for his kindness, compassion, and humor. He will be greatly missed.
