The Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey team won its fourth ECAC Women's Open Championship Sunday by posting a 7-3 victory over the top-ranked Crusaders of the College of the Holy Cross.
The Hawks were ranked second going into the game, but were powered by a hat trick from forward Aly Zappen, a senior from Huntington Beach, Calif. The team concluded the regular season with 20 wins for the second-straight season, accumulating an overall record of 20-6-1 through 27 games.
This is the team's first title under fourth-year Head Coach Kerstin Matthews.
Forward Rosemarie Giarrusso, a junior from Royal Palm Beach, Fla., earned Most Outstanding Player honors by scoring a combined two goals and three assists for five points through two games, including the game-winning goal to seal the championship.
