Description
of the Course: This course will focus on the political, cultural and social
history of France from the sixteenth century through the French Revolution.
We will discuss culture and society in the 16th century, the voyages of exploration
and the early French colonial experience, the rise of absolutism in the 17th
century, the role of women in the French salons, the impact of the French Enlightenment
and of the French Revolution.
