History 352 (Hi 46) Civil War and Reconstruction

Class Meeting Time: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, 10:30AM-11:20AM

Description of the Course: The American Civil War is arguably the central event in American history, a subject over which battles continue to be fought. In the course, we will analyze the complicated set of events surrounding the breakdown of the American political and social consensus, the war itself and the new directions taken by the nation in the post war period. We will investigate the ways in which different military strategies and tactics influenced the war's outcome. We will also study the political and social consequences of the war.
