Piers Plowman
William Langland wrote Piers Plowman between about 1370 and 1385, just as England entered a period of acute crisis. Plague, foreign war, peasant revolts, heresy, and domestic anarchy characterized England for the next hundred years. What would Langland have said was the problem with England? What kind of solution would he have proposed?
Pretend you are William Langland. Write an official government memorandum to Richard II addressing these problems.
