Food for Thought

Week 3: Thursday, January 30

1) Consult both the textbook and the Charter of 1814. What revolutionary accomplishments did the restored Bourbon kings find themselves forced to retain? At the same time, what did they manage to restore from the pre-revolutionary period?

2) King Charles X came to power in 1824 with a great deal of credit among the French people. List as concisely as possible the events, developments, and factors that led his government to become so unpopular. What final deed of Charles X's triggered the Revolution of 1830?

3) What sources of discontent undermined Louis-Philippe's regime? What were the three proximate factors that led directly to the fall of Louis-Philippe once the revolution began in Paris?

4) According to Louis Blanc, what factors contributed to the increasing misery of the working class? How would national workshops ease this misery?
