The Narmer Palette
from Hierakonpolish, Side 2, 3000 BC
This
side of the palette shows a king about to smash one of his enemy's skulls
with a club. Two hieroglyphs at the top of the center portion of the palette
identify the king as Narmer (a catfish=Nar and a chisel=mer). In other
words, behold mighty King Catfish-chisel.
