The Butcher, ca.
2400 BC
This
statuette and several others of various servants that follow are associated
with Ni-kau-inpu, an administrator, and Hemet-re, his wife. In all likelihood,
these pieces came from Ni-kau-inpu's mastaba tomb. Statuettes of servants
associated with the preparation of food often appear in tombs of this
periodpossibly because of their connection with sustenance and rebirth.
This painted limestone figure is 14 inches tall.
