The Teacher Education Program integrates our liberal arts general education, a student's major area of study (such as English, history, math physics, or language), and teacher education requirements.

Our state approved program emphasizes a strong theoretical base and practical experience. Its strengths lie in the use of reflective practice; electronic portfolios to demonstrate state competencies; multiple opportunities for teaching in diverse classrooms; and extensive content knowledge.

Saint Anselm College prepares students for teacher certification in the content areas of:

  • Mathematics (grades 7-12)
  • Chemistry (grades 7-12)
  • Applied Physics (7-12)
  • Social Studies (5-12)
  • English Language Arts (5-12)
  • French, Spanish (grades K-12)
  • Latin (grades K-12)
  • ESOL (grades K-12)

ESOL Certification
The education department now offers an English speakers of other languages (ESOL) program that leads to state certification. It is for students interested in language, cultures, social sciences, teaching in inner city elementary, middle, or secondary schools.

Saint Anselm is the only college or university in N.H. to offer certification at the undergraduate level and it is the only program that leads to being highly qualified teaching (HQT) in a content area.
