What You Can Do With a Degree in English


Julie Brodeur '06 is an account executive for FOX-23 in Portland, Maine, where she sells advertisement space and packages and manages clients who advertise on the television station.

Jennifer Joseph '06 is a financial representative at Fidelity Investments, Merrimack, New Hampshire, where she advises customers about their accounts.

Christian Bednar '05 , winner of the English department's John Julian Ryan Award for Excellence in Literary Study in 2005, completed his master of arts teaching (English) at Boston University in 2006. He is teaching English to ninth and tenth grade students at Masconomet Regional High School, Topsfield, Massachusetts.

Victoria Papa '05 , winner of the English department's Honorary Conley Scholarship Award in 2004, is pursuing a master of arts in English at the State University of New York, Albany, where she is writing her thesis on H. D., a modernist poet.

David Burrington '05 , is working on a masters in education, specializing in curriculum and instruction to teach English, at Keene State College, New Hampshire. He hopes to teach high school English once he graduates.

Nicole DaPonte '04 , winner of the English department's Comiskey Award for Community Leadership in 2004, is studying law at the University of Bristol in the United Kingdom.

Charles Bondhus '03 , winner of the English department's Comiskey Award for Community Leadership in 2003, completed his master of fine arts at Goddard College in 2005 and is now pursuing a Ph.D. in English at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. His research focuses on the gothic novel and queer/gender theory.

Phaedra Roli '03 works for Conover Tuttle Pace Advertising & Public Relations at Lynnfield, Massachusetts, where she is an acount eecutive. She develops strategic ad opportunities and annual marketing plans for her clients in order to promote greater brand awareness and category leadership.  Phaedra is involved in all aspects of the advertising process. She works with the company's creative departments and outside vendors (copywriters, printers, etc.) to create effective campaigns with print, radio, TV, outdoor, and online outlets.

Kathleen Farrell '02 completed her master of arts in journalism from Northeastern University in 2005 and is working as a staff reporter for the Newburyport News.

Meghan Atherton '02 is the senior editor of three weekly newspapers—Gilford Steamer, Winnisquam Echo, and Meredith News—published by Salmon Press in Meredith, New Hampshire. As senior editor, Meghan is responsible for copy editing and layout, and she writes several stories a week.
