Professor Voelcker teaches traditional black and white photography-developing film and printing. Students learn to work with a series of images and sequencing within a portfolio. Intermediate students continue to develop technical skills, work with a number of film types, and create a one-of-a-kind book.
Her personal work includes black and white portraits and self-portraits made in a documentary style. She is interested in capturing emotions and peak moments in life. Voelcker also works in color, making larger abstracted images from nature. Artists' books have been one of her interests for many years-she makes one-of-a-kind books that include her photographic images. Her work is exhibited nationally and (frequently) in New England from Boston to Maine.
Voelcker is the North East Regional Coordinator for the Artist Leadership Network, a national organization of women artist's small support groups. She is a coordinator of the Monadnock region Artist's Circle meeting monthly to share work and is a member of the Women's Caucus for Art.
Professor Voelcker received her B.A. in art history from Boston University and her M.F.A. in photography from the Visual Studies Workshop in Rochester, N.Y.
