The Language
A two-year sequence of Russian language courses is offered at Saint Anselm College. The majority of students enter at the elementary level with no previous knowledge of Russian.

Those who wish to study the language beyond the intermediate level and prepare for graduate studies in Russian linguistics or literature, may take advantage of intensive summer study at the Russian School at Middlebury College, or spend a semester in Russia.

The Literature
The course in Russian Literature explores, in English translation, important writings by major 19th and 20th century Russian authors. Lectures supply a detailed look at social and political events which helped shape the literature.

The Certificate
The above courses offered by the Department of Modem Languages and Literatures can be supplemented by other courses such as: Russian History, Russian Politics, Marxist Philosophy, Comparative Cultures (America and Russia), or a study trip to Russia, to fulfill the requirements for the Certificate in Russian Area Studies.
