Provided that the equivalent of the general requirements of the College and the basic courses in the field of concentration have been fulfilled, the transfer student should be able to complete a degree program without loss of time. The following conditions generally apply to students transferring from other institutions:
-
Normally, full credit is awarded for college courses in the liberal arts in which a grade of "C" (2.00) or higher has been earned at an accredited college or university during the last eight years.
-
Students are generally required to spend at least two years, and to undertake the majority of studies in their major at Saint Anselm before receiving a degree.
-
In all cases, the student must spend the complete senior year at Saint Anselm and fulfill all of the College's requirements for graduation.
Transfer credit is not generally awarded for:
-
Grades below "C" (2.00) (a C- is not a C)
-
Courses not generally included in a liberal arts curriculum
-
Courses determined not be comparable to Saint Anselm College curriculum
-
Over 20 courses
-
Courses with fewer than three (3) semester credits
-
Music performance courses such as choir or orchestra
-
Physical education courses
-
Internships or cooperative education courses
Credits toward the major
Courses approved for transfer to Saint Anselm College are acceptable toward the completion of overall degree requirements. However, application of credit toward major requirements is subject to departmental approval at the College.
General process
-
The student applies and is admitted
-
Alice Dunfey, Associate Director of Admissions, creates a preliminary (unofficial) transcript evaluation
-
Upon enrollment and one the student's final transcript is received, their file is sent to Fr. Benet in the Registrar's Office.
-
The Registrar's Office performs a formal transcript evaluation. Course descriptions will be requested.
-
Students will receive the formal transcript evaluation from Registrar's Office which will specify comparability/equivalency to specific courses and/or category of course work - core, major, major elective, or free, unrestricted elective. Basically "how" the courses transfer.
