The Office of Academic Advisement arranges for academic accommodations for students with disabilities; however, faculty members play a large role in the process.
There are a range of issues with which faculty members should be aware with regard to working with students with disabilities. Students will have a variety of questions for faculty members and, in turn, faculty members will have their own questions for the Office of Academic Advisement. The Disability Resources section of the website should address many of the issues and answer some the questions that may arise.
Faculty members will encounter students with disabilities in their classrooms as well as in advising sessions and will be asked a myriad of questions ranging from course selection to accessing services. Students may also request one-on-one time for strategies to assist them in handling course demands.
It is important for faculty to know the rules and regulations of the College to handle student inquiries but also to understand their responsibilities. This section of the website also contains information on the relevant laws and legal requirements, general information about disabilities, as well as resources for further study.
