Through their commitment to the individual student, faculty advisors seek to accomplish two fundamental goals: help each student develop meaningful relationships within the academic community, and help facilitate a student's academic success at Saint Anselm College.  The purpose of advising is to assist students in their intellectual development and their academic planning.  The substance of the academic advising process includes providing advisees with information about academic programs, policies, and procedures, as well as increasing their knowledge of campus resources.

An effective advisor will become knowledgeable about departmental and institutional requirements and be aware of the educational support services for the student.  The advising process can also help students master self-responsibility and decision-making skills that will serve them in a life long learning and goal setting process.  A well-versed and caring advisor can make a significant difference in a student's academic experience and personal growth.
