The Academic Resource Center offers a 10-week program to help first-year students develop skills and strategies essential for academic success. Based on Stephen R. Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Successful College Students, the College Achievement Program provides instruction on goal setting and self-management, reading and note taking, improving concentration and memory, thinking critically, and preparing for and taking tests.

The aim of this non-credit workshop is to assist you in making a successful transition from high school to college. The program is tailored to the first year curriculum, and through weekly classroom sessions it provides you with the opportunity to strengthen the learning skills essential for your academic excellence. Many successful students have attributed their academic achievement, in part, to this workshop.

Topics Covered

Organizing & using study time
Reading & note taking
Improving concentration & memory

Thinking critically
Preparing for & taking tests
Goal setting & self management

How It Works
Through learning styles and study-skills inventories, you will discover your academic strengths and styles and develop strategies to be more productive when you study. You will be introduced to strategies for efficient and effective study times and you will develop your skills through the application of the strategies to actual class materials, such as lecture notes and reading from texts. No out-of-class work is assigned. Individual assistance is also available as needed.

To Register
A registration form must be submitted directly to the Academic Resource Center. Following summer registration, you will be placed in a workshop section compatible with your academic schedule. Workshops begin the first week of fall semester. Enrollment is limited.

Fee
