The Urban Immersion program is organized through the Office of Campus Ministry. The program, through its student leaders, seeks to guide participants in the direction of service in the name of God through weekend-long trips to the inner city.
Serving the people of God and thus serving God the program seeks to live out the message of Matthew 25. It is the goal of the program to serve as an affecting experience in which the student has a greater awareness of poverty and injustice particularly in the inner city, and experiences themselves in a new arena.
It is the hope of the program that the student is awakened to the world and himself/herself in a new dimension and is refreshed by the possibilities and potential of his/her very own hands to impact the lives of others in a Christ-like way through social justices.
This semester we are offering trips to:
St. Francis Inn, a soup kitchen in Philadelphia. Students will serve guests, as well as help in the local thrift store and bring home deliveries of food to those who are homebound.
St. Benedict's Prep, an all boys school in Newark, NJ. Students serve as mentors to the students and provide service at the local food pantry.
Lazarus House, a shelter and soup kitchen in Lawrence. Students serve guests, as well as help in the local community.
All registrations for second semester are accepted on a rolling admission. For more information please contact Susan Gabert at (603) 641-7231 or sgabert@anselm.edu.
