FOCUS-V2TM - Career and Educational Planning System
O*Net - Tasks, skills, knowledge, abilities for a variety of occupations.
Self-assessment is an integral part of the career development process for every individual. It is intended to help in the exploration and recognition of an individual’s work and leisure values, interests, personal attributes, and potential areas of growth. With a greater understanding of self, an individual will be better prepared to make realistic decisions about their career plans and life goals.
Career Education Services maintains several programs and services to assist students with their own self-assessment process. Whether a student is trying to decide on a major, select an appropriate internship, or choose a career plan, s/he can meet with a career counselor to determine the best self assessment tool or service to meet their individual need. We have found our students benefit from a self-assessment inventory called Exploring You (based on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator—a personality assessment that describes different consistent behavioral patterns that result from how individuals take in information and make decisions) and a computer-assisted guidance program, FOCUS-V2, as well as career-related panel discussions, career workshops and other presentations.
Exploring YouTM
Exploring You is a Web-based program based on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. By answering several questions, the program helps to explore the processes the mind uses as an individual functions daily and what energizes and engages them in the world. After determining preferences, there is an opportunity to review information on the 16 Type Codes and receive feedback on the one that best matches selected choices This Type Code and feedback is only a piece in determining an individual’s strengths and finding an environment best suited to their style and strengths.
