Funds are available to support projects that fall outside the usual disciplinary boundaries and when departmental allocations are insufficient to fund a project. Funds may not be used to purchase tangible equipment, including computer software.

Available Funds
Grants of up to $2000 per project. Total amount available varies yearly.

Apply To
Chair, Faculty Development Committee, c/o the Dean of the College, making clear reference to "Common Fund for Faculty Development" and including whether applying as an individual, a department, or an interdisciplinary group. All applications must be accompanied by a letter from the applicant's department chair verifying that department allocations for faculty development (CF section 8) are not available to fund the project.

The application must reflect the purpose of the Common Fund, which is the professional development of the faculty member.

The letter from the department chair must clearly endorse the project. It must also inform the committee that the department cannot fund the entire project from its allocated faculty development funds. It must indicate why those funds are unavailable.

The application must include, and the requested amount reflect, the sum of a specific breakdown of anticipated expenses.

Apply By
As soon as the proposal is prepared. The committee will work with two rounds of applications. Round one will close on the first Friday in October, round two on the first Friday in February.

Formal Report
By the recipients to the dean of the college at the conclusion of the projects.
