The Gingerbread House Contest:
A Christmas Tradition
The year end is fast approaching, which can be slightly depressing, if it were not for one thing...the Gingerbread House Contest. Yes, the time has come, and for those who have not taken part in this event, you must know that you are truly missing out.
Not only is the Gingerbread House Contest a fun evening with friends and a ton of free candy, but it is also a way to win some cash just for building a gingerbread house. Of course, your final creation has to be pretty great, because competion is usually fierce and many of our competitors have been planning for this year's contest since the conclusion of last year's.
What do you have to do?
This year the contest begins at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 2nd. Teams will meet at Davison Hall to build their edible creations. Past entries have included traditional gingerbread houses, nativity scenes, churches, scenes from fairy tales, and even Harry Potter’s Hogwarts.
What do you win?
The finished constructions will be displayed around the Christmas tree for viewing and judging. So, whether you are an avid competitor or just want to have fun, sign up for this exciting event…oh…by the way…the registration is FREE, and there is a grand prize of $400.00 for the team with the best creation.
The winners will be announced on December 11th; the day after the Christmas feast.
What are the rules?
Rules are as follows:
- Teams must be made up of four Saint Anselm College students
- Dining Services will provide gingerbread pieces, candy, and tools.
- You can build anything. It does not have to be a house.
- You may bring design plans.
- You may NOT bring additional candy or non-edible props.
How do you sign up?
Print out a registration form or pick one up from the Davison Hall office beginning Monday November 16th. Fill out forms and RETURN to the Davison Hall office.

The survey is available online, and takes a few minutes to complete. We will send all survey participants a $5.00 dining services coupon as a thank you for your assistance.
