Course Selection
You should meet with your department chair and/or your academic advisor to discuss how courses abroad will fulfill major requirements and keep you on track for graduation. Careful early planning often ensures that you will meet all your Saint Anselm academic requirements.

Credit Issues
In order to stay on track for graduation, students normally take five classes while studying abroad (or the equivalent of five classes if an internship is part of the program of study). You should be aware that some education-abroad programs offer courses that are less than three credits (which Saint Anselm will not accept for transfer credit). Other programs only will allow students to take four, four-credit courses (leaving a student one course short). It is your responsibility to make sure courses and programs are compatible with your academic plans. You should contact the director of academic advisement or the registrar if you have any questions.

Completing the Application Process
You are responsible for completing a program’s application and for meeting the program’s deadlines. Most programs require that you submit an official transcript (obtained from the registrar), letters of recommendation, a short essay, and an application fee. You may also wish to submit an alternate application if you do not meet the GPA requirements of a specific program.

You must also submit a completed Saint Anselm Application for Education Abroad along with an up-to-date transcript and program course descriptions to the Office of Academic Advisement by the appropriate deadline:

  • March 15 of sophomore year for summer session, or fall semester junior year for full junior year
  • October 15 of junior year for spring semester junior year.

You may receive a decision on your application from Saint Anselm before registration for the next semester if your materials are submitted early enough.

If you are approved by Saint Anselm and accepted by a education-abroad program, you should register for ES00 Education Abroad. If, at registration time, you are still waiting for acceptance, you should register for classes at Saint Anselm. If you are accepted by a foreign study institution after registration, you should change your registration with your advisor and return the ES00 registration to the registrar.

After you are accepted by a education-abroad program, you should bring a photocopy of the acceptance letter to the director of academic advisement.
