Step 1
Attend a general information session sponsored by the Office of Education Abroad. Sessions are held each September and January.

Step 2
Call (603) 641-7371 to schedule an appointment to discuss your plans with Prof. Donald Cox, director of the Education Abroad Program.

Step 3
Meet with your academic advisor to see how courses taken abroad will enhance your academic plan.

  • Develop a four-year plan to include a semester abroad and to ensure your process towards graduation.
  • Discuss this plan with you academic advisor and your parents or guardian.
  • Generally students must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 to participate in an education abroad program. Some programs require a 2.75 or 3.0 cumulative grade point average.

Step 4
Complete the Saint Anselm College education abroad application form.

  • Have your department chairperson review, approve and sign the application form regarding your course selection.
  • Meet with the Registrar’s Office once you have the approval of your department chair person. The Registrar’s Office must approve the transfer of credit for all courses and sign your application form signifying approval. Please provide your department chairperson and the Registrar with course descriptions.
  • Discuss the financial aid impact of studying abroad with the Office of Financial Aid (603-641-7112) and with your parents or guardians.

Step 5
Complete the application process required by the provider organization or host institution (i.e.: AIFS, API, CIS, Arcadia , Butler , etc.) according to their specific deadlines. Do not delay; some programs and locations are very popular and fill early. Students are responsible for the application fee required by the provider organization or host institution.

Step 6
Apply for a passport and/or a visa or other documents required when traveling abroad
and staying for an extended time. A passport usually takes less than a month, but a visa
will take significantly longer so don't wait.

Step 7
Submit your fully approved Saint Anselm College application for education abroad to Prof. Donald Cox for final approval. Be sure to bring a copy of your approval and all other important supportive documents with you when you go abroad.

Step 8
Submit a copy of your acceptance letter from the provider organization or host institution to Prof. Cox and to the Office of the Registrar. Confirm with the Office of the Registrar that you are registering for ESOO/Education Abroad.

Step 9
If you are a dorm resident and will require housing upon your return to campus, it is essential that you schedule an appointment with the director of Residence Life (603) 641-7600 to make arrangements.

Step 10
You must attend the mandatory pre-departure meeting. Pre-departure meetings are scheduled at the end of each semester (prior to exam week). Final instructions will be discussed and last minute questions will be answered.
