Dear Student,
I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of Health Services to welcome new and returning students back onto campus! This year has started off energetically, and I would invite all of you who have not visited Health Services to stop by for a look and short tour of our facilities.
We offer a walk-in clinic Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-6pm, Saturdays from 12 p.m.-4 p.m. We are now closed on Sundays. The clinic is staffed by a health care provider everyday, made up of Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, and a part-time doctor who starts September 10.
Our medical care is free of charge, covered by your room and board. Feel free to visit if you are not feeling well, have a rash, muscle strain/sprain or need STD testing.
We also offer short-term counseling at no additional charge if you are feeling homesick, anxious, depressed, or having issues with relationships or substance abuse. Karen is available Monday, Wednesday and Friday 9 a.m.-5 p.m., and Bill is available Monday through Friday in the afternoons.
Our third component is health education. We offer CPR classes, Yoga, Pilates, an EMT class, Alcohol Education, and Relaxation techniques. Visit our website for the Online Screening for Depression, Anxiety, and Eating Disorders.
The hot topic on campus is Influenza. The best way to prevent The Flu is HANDWASHING!
- Practice good hand hygiene by washing with soap and water when available. Use hand sanitizers when soap and water is not available, especially when entering a building and leaving a building, and before and after eating.
- Practice respiratory etiquette by covering your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. If you don’t have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your elbow or shoulder, not into your hands. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth, germs spread this way.
- Know the signs and symptoms of the flu. A fever greater than 100 degrees Fahrenheit, chills and cough, or sore throat. In addition, symptoms of flu can include runny nose, body aches, headache, tiredness, diarrhea, or vomiting.
- Stay home if you have flu or flu-like illness for at least 24 hours after you no longer have a fever or signs of a fever. This should be determined without the use of fever-reducing medications. Don’t go to class or work.
- Visit Health Services.
- Clean all cell phones, computer keyboards, mouse pads, and doorknobs.
- Get the Flu Vaccine. We will be holding Flu Clinics for the Seasonal Flu Vaccine and the H1N1 vaccine starting at the end of September. E-mails will be sent out with further information as we receive it from the CDC.
WE ALL NEED TO WORK TOGETHER TO KEEP OUR CAMPUS HEALTHY. Please remind your friends, classmates, faculty and staff to wash their hands, carry your own hand sanitizer, and stay away if you are sick!
The Health Services staff members wish each one of you a healthy year, but don’t hesitate to call us at (603) 641-7499 or stop in if you have any questions.
