Faculty and Staff Software
Faculty and staff have a wide range of software available to them. The College has standardized on the Microsoft Office suite of productivity software and this software is installed on each faculty and staff member’s computer on campus. The current standard includes Microsoft Office 2003 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Access). For the Apple platform, the College provides the same Microsoft Office Suite and Entourage as an email client. The College has standardized on the Windows XP Professional SP2 platform and the Apple OS X platform for Macintosh. We are not planning to migrate to Windows Vista at this time. Additionally, our license agreement allows faculty and staff to install these products on one computer at home for professional home use only. It is important to note that our license agreement is not a site license and does not allow unrestricted use of Microsoft or Apple products.
The College provides Symantec Corporate Edition Anti-virus software for all computers on campus and this license extends to one computer at home for professional home use only for faculty, staff and students. The College has also recently reached an agreement for a site liscence for EndNote. Faculty, staff, and students can install this software on their College computer as well as on one home computer for professional/academic use. We are wokring on making this software available through a web based installation but community members can request that Customer Service install the software for them or provide CDs for home installation by contacting the Help Desk. Students who purchase the Dell University laptop in 2007, will find that EndNote is pre-installed with Microsoft Office on the laptop.
The College employs Citrix for access to specialized software such as SPSS. Software applications available through Citrix include all those listed above, Microsoft FrontPage, Microsoft Project, Microsoft Visio, Microsoft Visual Studio .NET, as well as specific departmental software for which the department holds the license usually by a specific number of purchased seats. Access to applications, within our license restrictions, can be provided on request. Please contact the Help Desk for more information.
Microsoft Software Media restrictions
Through our liscence agreements, the College can provide faculty ,staff, and students the necessary media to install Microsoft Office 2003, Windows XP Professional Upgrade, Norton AntiVirus and EndNote software for professional or academic home use as long as the individual is a faculty, staff or student at the College. There is a nominal cost for the media and the individual does retain the media for professional or academic home use. For Apple operating systems, the media is available for loan only.
