Helpful Information for Parents
Your student loves to receive mail from home, whether they admit it or not. Cards, letters, and gift packages become the highlight of their day and they certainly are excited when they get them. Here are a few tips when sending a letter or package:
- We are NOT an official United States Post office. Please do not use the words “Post Office Box” when mailing items to your student. The United States Postal Service may return items as undeliverable, and UPS and FedEx will not ship to a post office box.
- The proper address for letters and packages is:
STUDENT NAME
SAINT ANSELM COLLEGE
100 SAINT ANSELM DRIVE #_ _ _ _
MANCHESTER, NH 03102
You might have to abbreviate the words “Saint” and “Drive” in the third line of the address to allow enough space on that line for the box number. Some businesses such as banks, UPS and FedEx, have limited character space and might run out of space, cutting off the mail box number.
Packages
All carriers deliver to us on a daily basis. We will sign for your student’s package and notify them of its arrival by placing a card in their mail box.
- We have limited space for packages, and with over 2,300 mail boxes we run out of that space quickly. Therefore, we do not accept deliveries of furniture, auto parts and tires, alcohol or groceries.
- We also do not have refrigeration, so if you are sending flowers or perishables please make sure that your son/daughter knows to pick them up. We reserve the right to discard any perishable that might show signs of spoilage.
- Packages not picked up within 30 days are returned to sender.
For letters and flats, the U.S. Postal Service is very good. For packages or overnight items, consider the following: costs sometimes differ greatly between shippers and although they are all reliable, we are finding UPS to be more reasonable in fees on package services.
Within New England UPS ground packages are typically delivered within 24 hours. All carriers offer overnight services but before you choose, go online and compare. You may be surprised with what you discover!
