Volunteers interested in serving at a site that is not a Meelia Center Community Partner will be put in contact with the Affiliates Coordinators, who will manage placement and support. Students placed at affiliate sites are asked to keep us posted of any issues that arise, since there is no on-site coordinator to catch things early. The Affiliates Coordinators do provide on-going support, and are available to problem solve or plan programs as needed. The managed Affiliate Agencies include:

Upreach Therapeutic Riding Center: non profit organization dedicated to improving the physical, emotional, and psychological development of challenged children and adults through horse riding therapies.  Volunteers form relationships with clients through their role as side-walkers or front-walker. Help caring for the horses also needed.
 
VNA Parent Baby Adventure: provides support to young parents with newborns through school age children.  The group utilizes modeling, education and support to assist parents.  Volunteers especially needed to work with the children while mothers receive support. Students serve as role models through active imvolvement with the children, including reading books and preparing healthy snacks.
 
NH Probation and Parole:  shadow a probation officer in the office and in the community.  May involve going to court.  Great site for Criminal Justice majors and those interested in human services.
 
Pinehaven Boys Center:  group home for abused and neglected boys,  age 8-14.  On-site school and group residences provide a range of service opportunities.  Day time, evening and weekend hours available.
 
Manchester Community Resource Center: Community based program to help immigrants and refugees transition to Manchester and American culture. Program classes include taxation, English Language Learning and computer, as well as college level courses and study skills. Center's vocation services include clothing and interview preparation, job searches, and more.  Volunteers are NEEDED for ESL classes, GED programs, or simply greeters and activity aide.  Great site for many academic disciplines.
 
Hanover Hill Angels On Call: Hanover Hill Healthcare provides an angels-on-call program for volunteers to sit with residents who are terminally ill to provide companionship and support.  This is a special program...

SNH HIV/AIDS
Southern New Hampshire HIV/AIDS Task Force. Volunteers at this site serve as mentors or make home visits to people with HIV/AIDS. There are also other outreach and support activities volunteers can do.

Manchester Neighborhood Housing Services
Volunteers provide after-school homework help for children of refugees and immigrants

Manchester City Welfare Office
Volunteers and service-learners assist in busy emergency assistance department, and shadow caseworkers.

Lutheran Social Services
Volunteers and service-learners are matched with refugee families to provide community support. Provides for significant involvement. Large families may be served with pairs of volunteers.

Manchester Mental Health
Volunteers and service-learners assist with activities at the group residences and provide one-on-one mentoring for children and adults coping with chronic mental illness.

Manchester/Nashua Police Athletic Leagues

Athletic programing for at-risk youth. Includes boxing and self defense, as well as basketball and floor hockey.

Midway Shelter
Temporary Group Home for at-risk boys aged 12-17. Help in on-site school tutoring residents during school hours or attending and documenting therapeutic group sessions.

Crispin's House
Program serving at-risk youth and adolescents in Goffstown. Programs include school-based support, drop-in center, teen nights and mentoring.

Memorial High School

Volunteers assist in resource room.

Town of Goffstown / City of Manchester
New service opportunities working with city and town administrators on special projects and administrative and research support work.

Manchester Catholic Diocese / Catholic Charities

Volunteers may work with the Catholic Charities immigration and refugee services to assist new arrivals. Volunteers may also work with the Diocese’s efforts to research, educate and advocate for issues that concern the poor and vulnerable. The Diocesan office is in Manchester. Hours: Monday-Friday 9:00-4:00.

 In addition to the managed Affiliate Agencies the Meelia Center also sends volunteers to a number of other local non-profit service agencies. While the Center may have an on-going relationship with these additional affiliates, the number of volunteers each semester tends to be small, and therefore they are not as closely managed. If you choose one of these affiliates please keep in close contact with the Meelia Center to ensure your experience is a positive one. The list below includes affiliates specifically developed for spring 2005.

Manchester Office of Youth Services
City youth service office is centralizing information of all youth services and youth leadership opportunities in the Greater Manchester area. This information will then be posted on a new easy access web page. Volunteers are needed to meet with and interview various programs to capture their services for inclusion on the web page.

Campus Compact for New Hampshire
Coalition of NH college and university presidents to promote volunteer service, service-learning and civic engagement. Volunteers needed for project to revise and enhance web page to allow for student contact between campus.

Saint Anselm College Multicultural Center and Meelia Center
Busy student services offices need web assistance to enable web pages to be a more effective resource for students and student leaders. Help develop more effective information and operating systems.

Manchester/Goffstown Public Schools
Work with K-12 students in various Manchester or Goffstown Public Schools; volunteers may assist as tutor, a classroom aide, in ELL classrooms, and/or with special needs students. Hours: Monday-Friday, school hours

YWCA
The Manchester YWCA Girls Club is an after school program set up for girls ages 6-12 years old to provide positive role models and a safe encouraging place. This program involves homework help (especially math and science), gym time and arts and crafts.
