Present: Senators D. Wierda, D. Guerra, J. Spoerl, S. Gabriel, G. Parodi, J. D’Espinosa, D. George, E. Rizzo, D. Reagan, D. Rhodes, D. Kuehne, M. McKenna, M. O’Reilly, C. Weinreb.

Absent: M. B. Cronin

President Wierda called the meeting to order at 1 p.m. in the Dana Center Conference Room.

  1. President’s Remarks:
    The College is projecting a balanced budget for FY 2004, including set-asides and depreciation. This represents an improvement over the previous year.

    A draft document concerning web page policies is available on the public (GP drive). Faculty are encouraged to send any comments to Senator David George, Chair of the Information Technology Policy and Planning Committee.

  2. Approval of Minutes for 13 April 2004
    Senator George moved that the Minutes be approved; Senator Kuehne seconded the motion. The motion passed with 12 in favor, two abstaining.

  3. New Committee Assignments for 2004-5:
    Senator Wierda offered his suggested list of Senate committee members for 2004-5 to the Senate for its consideration and approval. (See attached list.)

    Senator Kuehne moved that the proposed committee assignments be approved; Senator D’Espinosa seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

  4. Calendar of Senate Meetings for 2004-5:
    President Wierda offered the following schedule for the Senate’s consideration:

    Tues. Sept. 14
    Tues. Oct. 19 [Tues. Oct. 12 falls on Fall Recess]
    Tues. Nov. 9
    Tues. Dec. 14 [final exam period]
    Tues. Jan. 18
    Tues. Feb. 8
    Tues. Mar. 15 [Mar. 8 falls in Spring Recess]
    Tues. Apr. 12

    Senator Rizzo moved to approve the calendar; Senator O’Reilly seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

  5. Miscellaneous:
    Senator O’Reilly reminded the Senate of the party for retiring faculty member Jim O’Rourke, to be held Wednesday, May 12, from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Pub.

    Senator George moved to adjourn the meeting; Senator Parodi seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. President Wierda adjourned the meeting at 1:05 p.m.
