
Abbot Matthew Leavy, O.S.B.
Abbot Matthew, a native of the Bronx, New York, took vows as a monk in 1968. Ordained to the priesthood in 1975, and having held various responsibilities in the monastery and college, he was elected the fourth Abbot of Saint Anselm Abbey in 1986. Holding a Ph.D. from Duquesne University, the Abbot has taught in the Psychology Department and in the Humanities program. He is chancellor of Saint Anselm College, and chairs meetings of its governing board. As religious superior to the monastic community he is its spiritual leader, but also performs many services for his brother monks, as well as for the wider college and church community.
