About Saint Anselm College
How large is Saint Anselm College?
Our student body is exclusively undergraduate and totals 2,000 men and women. They represent 31 U.S. states and 12 countries.
How large is the freshman class?
A typical freshman class includes about 530 full-time students.
What are your most popular majors?
In keeping with national trends, the most popular majors are English, business, psychology, biology, and politics. Our nationally recognized Nursing program, and long-standing criminal justice programs are also very popular with our students. (Majors)
In January 2009, the Economics and Business Department, the History Department, and the Education Department relocated to the newly renovated and renamed Joseph Hall. The building houses additional offices and seminar spaces, as well as a “trading room,” where business students can learn to use a Bloomberg machine for tracking financial markets.
What is the average class size?
The average class has 18 students. By junior year, most students have taken courses that have 15 students or fewer. Our student/faculty ratio is 12 to 1. Saint Anselm does not have teaching assistants or graduate assistants.
About the Campus
Is on-campus housing guaranteed for four years?
Yes, housing is guaranteed to all students who are resident students during their freshman year. Currently, 88% of the student body lives on campus in 33 residence halls.
Is the campus fully wired for computer networking?
Yes. All residence halls, classrooms, and meeting rooms are hard-wired for high-speed Internet connections with wireless hubs located throughout campus. HawkNet is the campus trouble-shooting network on campus, staffed by both full-time specialists and trained student workers.
The Admission Process
When applying, what application do you prefer?
Saint Anselm College is an exclusive user of the Common Application (either the on-line or paper version). A non-refundable fee of $55 must accompany the application, unless a waiver is being requested.
First-Year Candidate for Fall Semester Admission Application Deadlines:
Early Action - November 15
Regular Decision - March 1
The Early Action Plan is a non-binding program. This plan notifies a student on or before January 15 if they have been accepted without requiring a non-refundable $400 enrollment deposit until May 1.
If you apply for the Regular Decision Plan, you should return all application materials to Saint Anselm College no later than March 1. Notification regarding acceptance is between February 1 and March 15.
Where can I find admission requirements?
You can find this information on our Admission Website. The application requirements for first time freshman, transfer students, international students, and visiting students are specialized, as the educational backgrounds of applicants can differ greatly. Please review the list of requirements carefully, and contact the Office of Admission if you have additional questions.
What do you look at when evaluating an application?
Our admission process is selective and holistic. We review your high school transcript to determine whether you have taken the most challenging courses. We also consider personal recommendations from your teachers and guidance counselor, your essay, your SAT/ACT scores, and extracurricular involvement. The profile for the Class of 2011 can provide specific details on our enrolled students. The profile for the Class of 2013 will be available at the end of October 2009.
How important are SAT results? What is your cut-off score?
SAT I or ACT are required for admission and are used as part of the evaluation process. We have no firm cut-off score, and there is no magic number that ensures your acceptance at Saint Anselm. SAT/ACT scores are just one source of information that we use in determining your ability to succeed, and they are not the only source. The profile for the Class of 2011 can provide specific details on our enrolled students. The profile for the Class of 2013 will be available at the end of October 2009.
Will applying for financial aid affect my chances for admission?
No. Saint Anselm has need-blind admission. Which means applying for financial aid does not affect admission decisions in any way.
Do you give credit for Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) exams?
Yes. The College awards credit for an AP score of 3, 4, or 5 in any recognized discipline. Credit is awarded for a score of 5, 6, or 7 on a Higher Level IB Examination. AP and IB credit may be used to satisfy general requirements. Each academic department maintains its own policy regarding the use of AP or IB credit for placement in courses and progress in the major.
Does Saint Anselm College admit incoming freshmen directly into the baccalaureate program in nursing or is there a separate admission process?
Students interested in the nursing program submit the same application materials as all other applicants. We enroll 85 first year students into the four year nursing program each fall. We accept no transfers into the nursing program. First year students must apply directly to the nursing program and be admitted to the nursing program. All offers of admission to the nursing program are honored until the May 1 deadline.

Do you offer Internships?
All departments offer internship experiences, which combine the theoretical knowledge gained in the classroom with practical application in a supervised work place. The Office of Career Education Services and the Internship Office offers an in-depth listing off internship opportunites.
Do you offer athletic scholarships?
The College provides a limited number of athletic scholarships. Recipients are identified by the athletic department and are selected by the athletic scholarship awards committee. A student eligible for these funds must abide by the College and NCAA policies and must complete the financial aid process.
What opportunities do you have for extracurricular activities?

From our nationally award-winning student newspaper to club sports, cultural and service clubs, over 80 campus clubs and organizations give you abundant ways to pursue your passions, take charge, have a voice, and make a difference. New clubs form each year to match new student interests.
Are there community service opportunities?
Saint Anselm College was selected by Princeton Review to be included in a recently published book entitled "Colleges with a Conscience: 81 Great Schools with Outstanding Community Involvement." Saint Anselm students have done more than 18,000 community service hours on an annual basis. Much of our community service and service learning efforts are coordinated through our Meelia Center for Community Service, whose mission it is “to cultivate and maintain a relationship of engagement between Saint Anselm College and the larger community.” The college has ties to more than 60 state, national, and international service organizations.
What type of academic support services do you offer?
The Academic Resource Center (ARC) offers students assistance in developing or refining the academic skills that lead to college success. The Center’s professional and student staff provide services such as learning skills instruction, writing support, and peer tutoring. Workshops as well as individual instruction help prepare our students to achieve high academic success. The Academic Resource Center offers a 10-week program to help first-year students develop skills and strategies essential for academic success, based on Stephen R. Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Successful College Students.
The Office of Academic Advisement arranges for academic accommodations for students with disabilities. Students are welcome to contact the Office of Academic Advisement at (603) 641-7465 for more information about college policies relating to disabilities and the procedure for applying for academic accommodations. Saint Anselm College complies with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and with the American Disabilities Act (ADA).
How do I receive credit for advanced placement, the international baccalaureate, and CLEP?
Saint Anselm College participates in the Advanced Placement Program of the College Entrance Examination Board. Students who receive a grade of "3" or better in the Advanced Placement Examinations may be granted advanced placement and credit in the appropriate subject.
Saint Anselm College recognizes credit earned through the Inernational Baccalaureate (IB). Of the two IB examinations where a score of 5, 6, or 7 has been achieved. Credit will not be given for Standard Level examinations.
In general, the equivalent of one or two courses are issued for each acceptable exam result. Individual academic departments at Saint Anselm vary in how and if they award credit for students who have taken the IB Higher Level examinations. This information outlines the standard policies; should you desire further explanation, please consult the appropriate academic department. Each successfully completed Higher Level examination with the conditions noted must be submitted to the Officle of Admission prior to a student's matriculation at the College. Students who have taken both AP and IB examinations do not receive credit/placement for both.
In addition, applicants who have completed examinations under the College Level Examination Program (CLEP) may receive advanced placement and credit if the scores are acceptable to the College. Please consult the Saint Anselm College Catalog for detailed information.

Do I have to be Catholic to come to Saint Anselm College?
No, you do not have to be Catholic to be a student at Saint Anselm College. We welcome and encourage students of all faiths and religions. We value the diversity it brings to our campus and classroom.
Does Saint Anselm offer a Study Abroad Program?
Yes, we do have a Study Abroad Program. Typically students go during the summer months or during their junior year. Students have gone to a variety of places including France, Spain, Ireland, Australia, Italy, and India. Generally, 65 or more Saint Anselm Students per year particiapate in a study aborad opportunity.
What Division are your varsity sports?
Saint Anselm competes in the NCAA Division II and the Northeast-10 Conference and ECAC. Our athletic facilities are rated among the finest in the Northeast-10 Conference, boasting the 2,500 seat Grappone Stadium for football, the Thomas F. Sullivan Arena for our ice hockey teams, and Kavanaugh Field at Sullivan Park for our baseball team. In January 2009, a new fitness center for the campus was added to the south side of Carr Center, overlooking Sullivan Park and Grappone Stadium. This center, which is open to the general Saint Anselm population, provides state-of-the-art cardiovascular equipment, including treadmills, elliptical machines and Stairmasters, as well as weight machines and free weights. The current fitness center in Carr was renovated to meet the needs of varsity athletes.
How do I contact a coach?
If you are interested in playing at the intercollegiate level, you are strongly encouraged to make verbal contact with the proper head coach, as well as provide any materials requested by the head coach to support your athletic ability. The NCAA publishes an annual Guide for the College-Bound Student-Athlete, which helps guide high school students through the maze of available options beyond their graduation. Although our teams compete in NCAA Division II, all of our teams have open try-outs and organizational meetings with posted notification for the student body.
What is there to do in Manchester?
Manchester has a plethora of activities to take advantage of. There are theaters, restaurants, athletic arenas, museums and plenty more to keep you busy as you explore this great city.
