The South Athletics Fields serves as a true jack of all trades complex at Saint Anselm College. Upon entering the complex, one can' t help be struck by the expanse of the area.
Originally cleared and constructed in 1990, the complex spans a total of 20 acres and incorporates five well manicured and irrigated fields providing a permanent home to Saint Anselm's men's and women's soccer programs, the men's lacrosse program, women's softball program and future women's lacrosse program. The fields also offer a wide range of practice time for all outdoor sports.With the great changes in store for Kavanagh Field, changes for the better have also occurred recently on the South Athletic complex.
With the relocation of the men's and women's soccer programs from Kavanagh Field - now the sight of the baseball and new football complex - Melucci Field was refurbished in 1997 and 1998. That refurbishment includes a 510 seat permanent seat grandstand that regularly draws large crowds to Saint Anselm soccer and lacrosse games.
Along with providing a spectacular view of the programs with the scenic hills of New Hampshire on the horizon, the facility has also added a press box to the grandstand, a new scoreboard, a new concession and restroom building, and a patron courtyard along with improved parking and handicap accessibility. The fields have also been given new irrigation systems and the complex is now considered one of the finest Division II soccer/softball/lacrosse complexes in Division II athletics in the Northeast.
The South Athletics softball field is considered one of the finest Division II softball fields in the entire northeast.
On the westernmost side of the South Athletic Complex is one of Saint Anselm's most shining athletics and construction accomplishments - a brand new lighted practice field that will serve the college's programs in a variety of ways.
The softball facility includes two recently built dugouts, full irrigation, bullpens, press box, restrooms/concessions facility and recently added scoreboard.
