Saint Anselm provides financial aid as part of a longstanding commitment to keep our doors open to deserving students from different geographic areas, backgrounds, and financial circumstances. But, of the $15.5 million the College spends annually on scholarship assistance, only a fraction—just five percent of what is needed—is provided through current endowment funds specifically earmarked for scholarships and financial aid. This means that we can meet the full need of only 20 percent of our students. All others must borrow heavily to attend Saint Anselm, putting the College at a competitive disadvantage with other institutions that are better able to meet the financial needs of students.
Because financial aid is the single most important factor in determining which college a student ultimately chooses, the importance of a strong endowment for financial aid cannot be overstated. It is the highest priority of this campaign.
Reaching our $50 million campaign goal will add more than $15 million to the endowment for scholarship and financial aid, placing Saint Anselm on a firm foundation for the future.
