Haverford, Pa. (September 3) – The volleyball team opened their 2007 season at the Haverford Invitational Championship going 1-3 in four matches.
On Saturday, the Hawks took on Villa Julie in their season-opener, falling in straight sets 30-18, 30-21, and 30-21.
Later in the day, the Hawks played Arcadia through a grueling four games, but fell 3-1 (31-29, 23-30, 32-30, 30-27) in the match.
Alana McNeil (Lawrence, Mass.) led the team on Saturday with 17 kills and six blocks. Sam Regan (Danville, N.H.) had a team-high 26 digs and Kelly O’Dea (Andover, Mass.) had a team-high 46 assists and five service aces.
On Sunday, the Hawks opened against Rutgers-Camden and recorded their first victory of the season 3-0 on a forfeit decision.
In the Hawks’ second match of the day, Catholic defeated Saint Anselm in straight sets, 30-14, 30-25, 30-24.
In Sunday’s lone match against Catholic, McNeil led the Hawks with 14 kills, three service aces, and three blocks. O’Dea again had a team-high in assists with 31, while also recording 18 digs.
Alana McNeil was named to the All-Tournament team for her efforts on the court throughout the weekend.
The Hawks return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 4, when they travel to Assumption (2-1) for their Northeast-10 opener. The match is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
