Hawks Fall to No. 5 UMass Lowell

Manchester, N.H. (September 4) -- On Tuesday afternoon, the Saint Anselm field hockey team dropped a 2-0 final to UMass Lowell in Northeast-10 action. The game was the second time in three games the Hawks faced a nationally-ranked opponent.

After a scoreless first half, the River Hawks got on the board at the 54:31 mark when Sammy Macy found the back of the net. UMass Lowell extended its lead to 2-0 just eight minutes later when Heather Woodward tipped in a shot from Michelle Harrington to close out the scoring.

Sophomore Riley Haddock (Falmouth, Maine) made 11 saves in the loss for the Hawks, while UMass Lowell goalie Danielle Dodier turned aside five shots to pick up the victory.

With the loss, the Hawks fall to 1-2 overall and in league play, while the River Hawks improve to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in Northeast-10 action. Saint Anselm is back in action on Thursday, September 6th as the team travels to Assumption for a 3:30 p.m. start in Worcester, Mass.
