Manchester, N.H. (September 29) -- The volleyball team ousted cross-town rival Southern New Hampshire 3-0 (30-21, 30-25, 33-31) Saturday morning at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium. The win gives the Hawks their first Northeast-10 victory, improving to 2-12 overall, 1-7 Northeast-10. The loss drops Southern New Hampshire to 5-8, 1-5 Northeast-10.
After a 30-21 game one win, the Hawks used a seven point run in the second game to go ahead 15-8 and finish off game two 30-25. A hard fought battle between both teams in game three, the Hawks outlasted the visiting Penmen 33-31.
Led by Heather Sherlock (No. Andover, Mass.) with eight kills and a team high 11 digs, the Hawks used offense from players in several different categories. Alana McNeil (Lawrence, Mass.) recorded the match high with 10 kills and posted three service aces, while Jen Tougas (Glens Falls, N.Y.) had four service aces, five kills, and two blocks. Elizabeth Lonergan (S. Dennis, Mass.) recorded eight digs while posting three kills. Kelly O'Dea (Andover, Mass.) notched a match high 25 assists, and Kelly Rudolph (Winter Park, Fla.) picked up eight digs and three service aces.
The Hawks return to the court traveling to American International Wednesday, October 3 for a 7:00 p.m. start. Southern New Hampshire hosts Stonehill on the same day at 7:00 p.m.
