Manchester, N.H. (September 29) -- Junior Sam Rowe (Chelmsford, Mass.) scored late in the second half to lift the Saint Anselm field hockey team to a 3-2 win over Southern Connecticut on Saturday afternoon.
In a high-scoring first half, Whitney Martin put the Owls up 1-0 at the 17:13 mark before the Hawks tied the game at 21:07 on an unassisted goal from Laura Urko (Attleboro, Mass.). Annie Heaney (East Kingston, R.I.) gave the hosts a 2-1 edge off an assist from Urko, but that lead was short lived as Ann Berry capped an exciting first half with an unassisted tally at 30:06.
With the game seemingly heading into overtime, Rowe lifted the Hawks to their third win in the last five games with a score at 66:49. Heaney assisted on the game-winning score.
Sophomore Riley Haddock (Falmouth, Maine) made five saves in the win, while Lauren Zarrella turned aside five shots in the loss.
With the win, the Hawks improve to 4-7 overall and in league play. Southern Connecticut falls to 4-9 overall and 3-7 in the league. Saint Anselm is back in action on Thursday, October 4th when the team travels to Franklin Pierce for a 6 p.m. start in Rindge, N.H.
