Hawks Fall in Second Annual Hawk Classic

Easton, Mass. (October 6) -- In the Second Annual Hawk Classic on Saturday afternoon, the Saint Anselm football team fell to Stonehill by a 56-7 final at W.B. Mason Stadium. The all-time series now stands at 5-4 in favor of Saint Anselm.

The teams started slow in the first 10 minutes before Stonehill running back Jeffrey Payne (West Haven, Conn.) scored on a three-yard TD rush with 4:58 left. The Skyhawks struck again with 1:04 left in the first period when David Pringle (West Haven, Conn.) hauled in a 67-yard touchdown from Cruz Parsons (Signal Hill, Calif.) for a 14-0 advantage. Payne added two more touchdown runs, along with a 28-yard TD reception by Eddie Vachon (Newton, Mass.), to take a 35-0 lead into the halftime break.

Stonehill continued its offensive display early in the third quarters on a rushing TD by Parsons following a Saint Anselm fumble, followed by another rushing score by Vachon for a 49-0 lead with 6:43 left in the third quarter. Vachon added his third touchdown of the day in the closing moments of the third quarter and the Skyhawks held a 56-0 lead with 2:32 on the clock. Saint Anselm got on the board in the final minute of the game as junior Conor Cahill (Danvers, Mass.) scored his third touchdown of the season with 42 seconds left on a three-yard touchdown leap to account for the 56-7 final.

With the loss, the Hawks fall to 0-5 overall and 0-4 in the Northeast-10, while Stonehill is now 4-1 overall and a perfect 4-0 in league play. Saint Anselm is back in action on Saturday, October 13th when the Hawks travel to Merrimack for the Second Annual Merrimack River Shootout.
